growing up too fast

It is all starting to feel like everyone is growing up too fast - Lauchlan is getting really tall and trying to say more and more words - fish, toast, hot, shoes, and yes amongst others.

Sophie meanwhile likes dresses and pretty things and she was over the moon when Gran came back from holiday with a Flamenco style dress for her.

Sophie also graduated this week into her new car seat - she was very proud of this as you can see from the photos.

Back to work tomorrow for Mummy - been a really great year and although it will hit everyone like a ton of bricks we will adapt again as always and we are already looking forward to the school October break to catch our breath. Hope everyone out there is doing well and hope to see you all soon.

Boys and girls

It's been a funny couple of weeks where the girls seem to be doing girl things together and the boys have been getting to do some boy things.

Last week Gran was up from Campbeltown to stay with us and visit Go Ape with Katie as part of her Birthday present. Apparently Hilary has a bit of a history as a tree climber and was keen to get back in touch with her roots - or branches as it were.

Go Ape was an amazing experience by all accounts however my experience of taking two wee monkeys around hilly forest terrain in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the two monkeys up the tree was a little bit less worth recommending to a friend.

Sophie, Lauchlan and I were up and down hills, visiting waterfalls, bird hides and pulling faces.

Meanwhile Gran Hilary was up the tree tops!

Earlier in the week Lauchlan modelled the new Autumn colllection in the front garden - the scaffolding you can see isn't ours but next doors - our work might start sometime this year but probably next year.

This weekend was dominated by one big event - Disney on ice! Sophie and Mummy were going themselves and no boys were allowed - at £30 a ticket we were quite happy about that. So we invited Grandad over instead and had a whale of a time.

Sophie meanwhile was loving the show and the lollies and the Haribo with her friend Olivia.

She also enjoyed some popcorn, some chocolate and yes, she even enjoyed the ice skating and singing - especially The Little Mermaid.

Sophie and Mummy went out for a sophisticated pizza meal after the show - ladies that lunch eh?

We were able to light a fire for the first time since having it put in to replace our horrendous art deco green surround. I won't lie - the fire looks great but died very quickly leaving us with a smokey living room - this is apparently normal and the fire has to bed in.

Sophie decided she wanted to take some photos - here is her best........

On Sunday Sophie and Mummy were out and about again, this time at a party, leaving Dad and Lauchlan to amuse themselves by doing wrestling, jumping, couch climbing and other crazy boy stuff like eating hummous and carrots.

And finally, this week Katie was  upstairs and left the kids to it with Sophie in charge - she decided to serve breakfast - dry weetabix for two, on the stairs, lovely.....

Where does all the time go? A belated bit of writing from Lauchlan's birthday and a visit to see Thomas.

Where does all the time go exactly - and where in fact did the summer go? Or did we actually leave it in May? Can someone nip back and collect it for us?

Lauchlan as you can see from the previous posts photos had a brilliant time for his birthday - special thanks to everyone who helped make the birthday celebrations special and thanks expecially for gifts and coming along to help celebrate. Extra special thanks must go to Grandad who supplied a great Number One cake but double extra special thanks must go to Auntie Karen who made a fantastic chocolate digger cake (that you can see in the last post). Everyone loved all the cake apart from myself who couldn't even eat any! (yeah, thanks guys ;o)

A funny story I meant to write about last time about balloons requires to be shared this time aound - I just hope it is still funny!

It was the night before Lauchlan's birthday and we decided that I should nip out and get some helium balloons to further decorate the house. Katie waited until the kids were in bed and did some balloon research determining that Tesco was the place to go. So off I went into the night - to go to Tesco Maryhill. The conversation went as such:

Me: :Do you have helium balloons?

Tesco: No, ever since the opened card factory downstairs we don't bother

Me: Oh, ok then

So off I went to the other massive Tesco I know of which was a 15 minute drive away. The conversations went.......:

Me: :Do you have helium balloons?

Tesco: No, no we don't.

Me: Oh, ok then (for goodness sake.....) DO you have any idea where I could buy them?

Tesco: Yes, try Asda Govan......

Me: Thanks

And off I trotted into the night - the time was 10.15pm

By the time I arrived at Asda Govan it was 10.25pm and I realised that there was in fact a concert happening in Bellahouston Park - surely it would be finishing soon and surely I would get stuck in all the traffic - oh no, I better hurry.....

Into Asda I go and I could hear Eminem finishing up his set so I hurriedly spoke to a member of staff and said

Me: :Do you have helium balloons?

Asda:Yes we do - just over there actually - if you go and grab them bring them to the kiosk and we will blow them up, just don't forget to get a ribbon and a weight.

Me: Oh brilliant, ok then, thanks

Off I trotted to pick my balloons - I bought a cheap really crap 1st birthday balloon and I selected a foil shint number 1 for £6. I took it to the kiosk but noone was there - and a woman came by to tell me it was a change of shift and I may be waiting some time. I checked my phone it was 10.35pm and I looked online to see that the Eminem gig finished at 10.45pm.

the guy I had spoken to when I first arrived came over and said helpfully "I will blow them up for you" - "I see you have a weight but this one doesn't actually come with a ribbon - don't worry I will sort it out."

He came back several minutes later handed me the two balloons and I grabbed tightly to the ribbons - and I thanked him greatly - I made my way to the car and the time was 10.45pm - I would just about make it out of the car park before the crowds hit - I would get home before 11 and I would be able to get to bed glad that my efforts weren;t completely wasted.

I got to the car, unlocked the door, opened the door and moved the drivers seat to allow me to get the balloons into the back seat, I gripped tightly to the ribbons and as I bent down the balloons bounced against the cars roof - and the shiny foil number one detached itself from the ribbon that the really helpful guy had tied on and floated off into the night sky....................leaving me holding onto the ribbon and the cheap crap balloon.

There was no time to go in and complain, there was no way I could go somewhere else for another balloon - I was a broken man......

Anyway - it's a funny story and lesson learned - don't let Brian from Asda Govan tie your ribbon and don't shop at Asda Govan when there is a gig on in Bellahouston.

Back to the blog.....

One of Lauchlan's birthday treats was to go to Deep Sea world - he loved it...

Sophie and her pals along with Lauchlan went to the Botanic gardens to see some dinosaurs....

Sophie and Lauchlan went to a birthday party this weekend whilst Dad resealed the bath ;o[

And then today we went to see Thomas and friends at Bo'ness - it was a great day out although a bit rainy and Sophie didn't really want to pose for photos - we are all loaded with the cold so it wasn't as brilliant a day as it could have been, still well worth it though and some good laughs
